School of Engineering Why did you start dancing? I started dancing at weekend Chinese school when I was 5. My options were either dance, gymnastics, or volleyball. The gymnastics teacher scared me and volleyball hurt my arms, so dance it was! I've been doing traditional Chinese dance ever since and also did some ballet in middle school. I'm so glad that Panasian allows me to practice the styles I'm familiar with, but also explore new styles I never saw myself doing. Why did you join Pan-Asian? Basically because Dee flyered me on Locust. I saw the awesome performance at FPAN and already had the intention to audition. Then Dee stopped me on Locust and shoved a flyer in my hand and told me to audition so I abided. I'm so glad that I did because if I didn't, who would be willing to bake cookies with me at midnight?? What do you do in your down time? Eat, sleep, and cook. And after I cook I like to invite people over to eat with me because eating alone is v sad and company is always good! Also enjoy a good game of Catan now and then :)

College of Arts and Sciences Hometown: Long Island, New York What was your favorite Pan-Asian moment? My favorite Pan-Asian moment is definitely when we go karaoking after winter social--everyone is passionately screaming at the top of their lungs while they shove the microphone in my face. Did you dance before coming to college? I came into college with practically no dancing experience, but I was interested in hip hop and wanted to give dancing a shot. What are your hobbies? Other than dancing, I like singing, traditional and digital illustration, music production, fashion, and avant-garde memes.

The Wharton School Hometown: East Windsor, NJ What does Pan-Asian mean to you? Since my freshman year, Pan-Asian has been a family of artists and creators to me. The passion and dedication of the members in this Troupe rival that of the most tight-knit groups you could think of, and it’s truly unique to be a part of the Pan-Fam. We push each other in dance and in our personal endeavors. Pan-Asian is both welcoming and supportive, and it is where I have met some of my life-long friends. What is your most memorable Pan-Asian moment? Nothing compares to the feeling of your my first show with the Troupe my freshman year. It was extra special because it was Pan-Asian’s 15th anniversary show, and thus, a lot of alumni came back for the show. Throughout, I remember seeing some of my upperclassmen role models leave it all on the stage, and it was a moment when I realized that I wanted to carry on the legacy of Pan-Asian. If you could have any superpower, what would you have? Definitely time control (so I can choreo and turn in CIS assignments in peace).

School of Nursing Hometown: Delano, California What does Pan-Asian mean to you? Pan Asian is a quirky random laugh, a sharp choreography correction, a sleepy midnight food run, a reckless inside joke, a careless arm around a shoulder, an encouragingly patient listen, a kind small gesture, a shocking big family, a snarky audience heckle and the best people I've been privileged to dance with and love. What is your most memorable Pan-Asian moment? My partner lifted me in the air Simba Lion King-style...and promptly dropped me a second after. What are your hobbies? When I'm not dancing, I write both poetry and fiction, sing classical opera, watch Friends, cook eggplant and tater tots, slap on makeup and talk the night away with my friends.

The Wharton School Hometown: Beijing, China What's your perfect vacation? I would like to go to the North Arctic for a month, feeling the holy aurora deep in the heart, enjoying the peace, and meditating under the starry sky. What is your most memorable Pan-Asian moment? The first moment came into my mind was our newbies’ first gig. At backstage, one minute before the stage lights were all turned on, we were holding each other’s hands and whispering “PADT 4 Life” again and again. I know it is a Pan-Asian tradition to whisper “PADT 4 Life” at backstage, but still, experiencing it for the first time left an enormous impact on me. I just can’t get over that moment, when we felt so unified and so driven by the same cause – Pan-Asian. What are your hobbies? Eating new types of food (right, usually I would be reluctant to taste it again once I have tried it for once!), acting and directing plays, listening to retro Cantonese music, traveling to some primitive places, playing mafia, exploring various Hutongs in Beijing, and running while enjoying the view of the city.

My perfect vacation would be backpacking through Europe, Latin America, or Asia with a close travel companion. What is your most memorable moment in PADT? My most memorable moment in PADT was finally performing during our first show for the first time in front of a packed auditorium. It was exhilarating. Why did I join PADT? I had free time that afternoon and an urge to dance. What is your optimal superpower? My optimal superpower would be to immediately fall asleep for a predetermined interval of time. I could sleep through the first 5 minutes of class that are always useless review. I could sleep on airplanes or sleep through the compulsory Spotify advertisements. Along with this package would come the power to wake up right before anyone tries to draw mustaches on my face or take a billion phone selfies. Why did you start dancing? I started dancing because I love to MOVE! What are your hobbies? I am a dancer, photographer, vlogger/ videographer.

The Wharton School Hometown: Houston, TX Why did you start dancing? When I was little, I used to go with my sister to their violin classes. However, since I didn't play the violin, I was always bored and would watch the dance class across the hall and would imitate them. Eventually my mom just signed me up for class there! If you could have any super power, what would it be and why? I would have the ability to transport myself instantaneously. That way, in the winter, I wouldn't have to face the snow and cold weather, I could just go from my dorm to class. Also, I would save time and could sleep in more! What are your hobbies? I like to read, sleep, and eat (on repeat).

The Wharton School Hometown: Chalfont, Pennsylvania Why did you join Pan-Asian After watching the Pan-Asian Youtube videos with Lina during senior year of high school, we were both adamant about trying out for the troupe once we got to campus. I did get flyered while going into 1920 Commons one day, but I was already sure that I would be trying out. Lina and I tried out at the last audition, the 11pm audition, and I fell in love. Why did you start dancing? I started dancing at my local dance school, taking ballet, tap, and jazz when I was five years old. At the same time, I learned various styles of Chinese dance at my Chinese school. I would also learn dances from watching videos online, and I practiced in my basement. When I started getting busier in high school, I started to focus on Chinese dance, and I still feel that it is one way I stay connected with my culture. What are your hobbies? I like to play tennis for fun, although I am not a super competitive person. I love listening to podcasts as well, and I highly recommend listening to Code Switch and More Perfect . I love playing my ukulele and harmonizing with anyone who is willing, and it is something I like to do to get my mind off of any stresses I'm dealing with. I also love waking up and starting the day off with a run or a workout!

School of Engineering Hometown: Naperville, IL. Why did you join Pan-Asian? I joined Pan Asian because I have been doing traditional dance my whole life, and didn't want to lose that part of my cultural identity. Pan Asian is special because not only do we do more traditional style dances, we also mix in hip hop and modern styles too! I knew Pan would be an awesome family of support and love, and full of friends that I could look up to and get close to. What's your perfect vacation? My ideal vacation is to either go to a off-shore hut in Bora Bora, or go on a 2 month tour of all the Asian countries. I've always wanted to visit Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam, and revisit Korea and China. I mainly travel for food and views, so I love the variety of tastes and seeing the landmarks of each culture. What are your hobbies? My main hobby is art! I love to use colored pencil, watercolor, ink, and digital medias. My favorite things to draw are portraits and food! I've drawn every since I was little, and it serves as a source of calm and stress-relief for me during busy times.

Also, I liked how they're the only group who does fusion between hiphop and traditional style dances. Why did you start dancing? College of Arts and Sciences Hometown: San Jose, CA Why did you start dancing? My family friend invited me to his dance team’s showcase at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in June 2017 and I became inspired by his passion. After his performance, I asked him if he could teach me, so over the summer we met up for weekly lessons. I still have a lot of room to grow, but my family friend gave me the confidence to at least audition this fall. I am now excited to practice dance in Pan-Asian and hope to show my family friend my growth. If you could have any superpower, what would you have? If I could have any superpower, I would want to be able to fly. I am tired of having to walk around everywhere, so flying would make life more exciting. It would also be a great way to gain a new and uplifting perspective in life. Plus, flying will compensate for my short height! Why did you join Pan-Asian? I am a transfer student from Emory University, and coming to a new campus is difficult. Though I need to make new friends this semester, transferring schools is like having a clean slate to try new things. This semester I want to learn more about dance and find a close-knit community, and fortunately, I found that both can be accomplished by joining Pan-Asian. Here's to new beginnings!

College of Arts and Sciences Hometown: Beijing, China What's your perfect vacation? Staying in a cabin in the nature, surrounded by trees, adorable creatures, and water fall in autumn. At night, start a camp fire while reading a book eating s’mores and drinks hot coca with friends. What is your most memorable Pan-Asian moment? Why did you join Pan-Asian? The reason I decide to join Pan-Asian is that PADT is like a family to me. We study together, work together, dance together, travel together, and have fun together. Most importantly, each member truly cares about each other from their hearts. Why did you start dancing? I never even thought about dancing until the beginning of my sophomore year during high school. My friends and I were just watching some BTS music videos(Danger and Bulletproof pt.2) and an email popped up from my mail box saying that there is a culture show hosted by the school and the Student Council who wanted different groups to sign up and perform. Without any dancing experience, my friends and I decided to take on the challenge and do something interest us that we can all do during your spare time.

School of Engineering Hometown: Houston, TX Why did you start dancing? Some of my first memories were made watching my older sister learn to dance, so when I was 4, I begged my mom to enroll me in classes, and I’ve been training, performing, and competing in classical and folkloric Chinese dance, ballet, and contemporary dance ever since! Why did you join Pan-Asian? I joined PADT because I was looking for something on campus where I could continue my love for dance and choreography and find a group of people I could call my family <333 If you could have any superpower, what would you have? If I could have any superpower, I would want to be able to control time; I would want to be able to move backward and forward through time as well as slow, speed up, or stop time eat my own leisure.

The Wharton School Hometown: San Ramon, CA What's your perfect vacation? Getting lost with good friends and laughing it off. Or curling up somewhere warm and green with a good book without a worry in the world. If you could have any superpower, what would you have? A keen perceptiveness to the type of food I am craving at the moment instead of having to rummage/eat through all my snacks before I finally find something that hits the spot. What are your hobbies? Tending relentlessly to my struggling succulents with controlled watering and adequate sunlight, despite watching them die rapidly and unforgivingly before my eyes.

School of Nursing Hometown: Ridgewood, NJ Why did you start dancing? I started taking ballet classes when I was 5 and loved it so much that I continued until 8th grade, when I temporarily stopped to play tennis in high school — a big mistake! I happily resumed dancing in college and branched out into jazz, contemporary, and traditional Asian dance! I love the stage, and I love making art with my fellow dancers. Why did you join Pan-Asian? I wanted to connect more with my Chinese and Filipino heritage by learning traditional Asian performing arts. Pan-Asian was the perfect fit, and I truly love everyone in troupe! What are your hobbies? Other than dancing (and watching dance), I love hiking, cooking, and good radio.

School of Engineering Hometown: Acton, MA Why did you join Pan-Asian? I joined Pan-Asian because I sought a dance group that would allow me to enjoy the traditional Chinese dance that I had done before while also giving me opportunities to learn new styles like hip-hop and fusion. Furthermore, at Penn, it’s easy to feel lost and alone even when surrounded so many people, so I wanted to find a tight-knit community that happened to share my love of dance as well. I’m so grateful to have the PADT family! If you could have any superpower, what would you have? I would choose to have the ability to read minds. Interaction with others is an integral part of life, and often, people don’t reveal their true thoughts and feelings. If I was able to read their minds, I would better be able to respond and understand them, resulting in deeper relationships. There are also more devious but advantageous ways to use this superpower…imagine all the secrets I would know! Why did you start dancing? My mom signed me up for my first ballet class when I was six years old. As a shy little girl who actively avoided the spotlight, I walked into that class with hesitation. But I soon realized how much I enjoyed it and only continued to dance more as I grew older. Gaining a foundation in ballet, I eventually switched my focus to traditional Chinese dance, joining a dance company that performs all over the Boston area at charity galas, half-time shows and annual shows.

Perelman School of Medicine Hometown: Houston, TX What does Pan-Asian mean to you? Friends, family, food, fun, and forced exercise What is your most memorable Pan-Asian moment? Almost having the police called on us during initiations! But actually, I really enjoyed initiations night and getting to meet everyone in this incredible company! Why did you join Pan-Asian? Growing up, I've always been relatively distant from my East Asian ancestry, so I have always used martial arts, food, and most recently Asian dance styles to help keep me connected to my roots. Also, I had heard (and can now confirm!) some great things about Pan-Asian before coming to Penn, and I really wanted to have a family to get me situated at Penn and in Philly!
